ENGAGEMENT
We cannot see the future; we can only lay out the path to get to a future we want. Imagination can be scary. It is not black and white, and it is uncertain. But a vision of what your future will look like is important to guide work and resources. Think of any sports game - the vision is that your team will win; no team ever imagines losing. It applies to your organization also - what does “winning” mean to you? That’s vision.

STRATEGY
In my view, strategy is looking at the past in terms of information and what worked/what didn’t, giving a nod to the present, all in preparation for what is yet to be. Strategy is all about taking in data and information, reviewing with a critical eye what worked/what didn’t, and giving careful consideration of what to do next. In fact, a strategic plan is the ultimate “to do list,” a document that guides workflow and resources, and documents anticipated success.
ABOUT DEBBIE BOWDEN
My career experience has not been linear in any sense. I’ve worked in communications, transportation, economic development, family businesses, small- and micro-businesses, large corporations, state government, local government, and county government. Along the way, I’ve communicated with people one-on-one and in large audiences. I honed my skills at imagining scenarios and implementing plans to realize goals. And I learned that for any project, the best methodology toward reaching a goal is collaboration.
